You can almost always think back to the error that led to your demise. You will undoubtedly die, possibly several times, during these boss fights, but rarely does it ever feel cheap. I guess the real investment in refining your approach to combat will come if you're an achievement hunter.Īs for the boss fights themselves, they truly are epic. Admittedly the 'God powers' add an extra layer as you obtain them but not enough to really increase the complexity any. The combat lets the game down somewhat, it isn't really fluid and is very basic in that you have 2 different attacks and a dodge.
At no point did I find it laborious to find all of these 'secrets' within each level, revelling in the gorgeous artwork or the dulcet tones of Thora recanting stories from Norse mythology. The game is narrated in Icelandic with English subtitles, and this narration really adds to the flavour, as each realm, or Jotun is given a brief explanation by Thora, the heroine.Įxploration is as much a part of the game as the boss battles, where you can obtain gifts from the Gods themselves, be restored by Mimir or be rewarded with panoramic vistas as the camera pans out to reveal a greater portion of the landscape. Jotun is this beautiful, hand drawn saga of Norse mythology with epic boss battles (the eponymous Jotun) set within the realms nestled in the branches of Yggdrassil, the Tree of Life. Well, I wasn't expecting to be writing this so soon but the game I had pegged for April, Jotun: Valhalla Edition, I've completed it already.
